Selling Points: In my family for 16 years. Re-painted 3 years ago due to hail damage except for doors. Very nice original condition. Radio does not work well. Roof in good shape. Replaced front buckets two years ago with after market which are very comfortable. Very good shape mechanically, serviced by a german technician, just replaced rear shock struts - yesterday !
Condition: Tires in good condition, engine very strong, cut power steering cable to drive manually - MUCH better handling. Car is often mistaken for a much newer model. College tuition for child looms so cutting down on toys.

yes the car is great for a 17 year old

The link you provided for pictures is down, so judging by the info you posted I would say the car is worth 3500 max. The mileage is low, however its a 4 door auto with tan interior.. Not worth the pricetag in my opinion

please to god, do not pay that much for that car. It's not even a stick, which are more desirable. Trust me, you will regret buying an autotragic. If you don't know how to drive stick, I'd try learning, it really isn't hard once you get a hang of it, and it's fun.

ok, he is asking too much, thanks for telling me that.
So my starting price point should be around 2,500, right?
Also, I fixed the link, you guys can check the car out if you want...

Also, what are some of the reasons I should give the guy for my $2,500 starting point?

Nice e46, oh wait I mistook it for a much newer model. Holy crap someone bought this? Wonder how much they got it for.

EDIT: sorry got confused mrsleeve's car has been gone for two months, I thought you were talking about this one.
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

I'm seeing a vert? Not a 4 door... As clean as the car looks, i'd say it's with in the ballpark of what the guy is asking.

Definately go manual. Kids shouldn't be learning in shitty automatics.

Have you thought about a late model accord or something? I'd pick up something with functioning airbags as the odds of a seventeen year old driver putting it into the back of some domestic suv at 35mph is about 50/50. Is the kid good at fixing stuff? What kind of car do they want? If your budget is around 5k that should provide a wealth of choices in late model foreign compact and mid-size vehicles.

agreed. my dad almost steered me into getting an automatic japanese car, much unlike his taste (he's had bmw/volvo/peugeot for the past 30 years) but no matter what he did, I went towards driving a manual European car. Trust me, you're gonna want to feel the pleasure of driving a manual bmw sooner or later, might as well start from the beginning.
