    Weird Octane Levels?

Okay, so I'm just wondering if anyone can give me advice on which gas to use. I know normally I would just use 91 octane, however the gas station by my house blends their gas with ethanol, so the octane levels are a bit higher. They offer 90, 92, and 94. I asked the attendant today if she knew and she handed me a pamphlet:

90: Mid grade blended with ethanol
    92: Premium, blended with ethanol
94: Premium plus blended with ethanol

If I get a MarkD chip that requires 93 octane then wtf. Will the 94 work with a 93 octane MarkD chip? And without the chip what should I run, I have 94 in there right now and it seems to run as usual.

all gas has Ethanol in it, up to 10% by law. Shit you are a newfy ( I ked ked) I dont know what your laws are on that. Thats how it is in the states.

You dont need to run anything more than 87 when running Bone stock non chipped. If you are running a 93 octane chip, anything more than will not hurt it at all.

Oh really? As far as I know anyways in Canada you don't need ethanol. Usually at the pump you see 87, 89, and 91. I was told that since my 91 318is has a 10:1 compression ratio it needs premium to prevent knocks and shit, so usually I run 91, except now the place by my house got new pumps and are using ethanol I guess.

I'd use the highest grade available unless you're at sunoco or something and they're selling 100 octane race gas for $7 per gallon.

I heard that chevron was still running 100% petrol (minus their techron additives, shit ethanol is probably in that!)? Is this not right?
West German BMWs, they just don't make the same as they did before the wall fell.
^Case in point: Auto-Repair Technology. Everytime my car isn't starting or acting up I let it sit, sometimes for an hour, sometimes for days. But it eventually fixes itself.

Supposedly Chevron is starting to put ethanol in their fuel now, fuckers. As far as Husky's advertising higher octane for the same price remember that ethanol does have a higher octane rating but actually contains less BTU's of energy than pure gasoline so your gas mileage will suffer using it.

You don't need to run premium unless you have a chip brah.

Yes thats all we see here too (unless its e85 or has more than the 10% ethanol)

Sure you can run a little better fuel in it, but its not really necessary. The euros call for 91 octane in the M42 but they only calculate the RON. We here in the states average the RON and the MON for our Octane numbers. Just run the mid grade fuel to be on the safe side if you must. IIRC the rating for M42 on RON+MON/2 is a 90 octane. So yeah you should be on the mid grade fuels while stock

Adrain is right about the BTU with the higher Octane Attained with higher concentrations of Ethanol, you will lose milage with the more ethanol in your blend you are running.

In my 1st post thought you had a m20

Neo: Yes there may be some places that are still running 100% petrol, but its not the norm, most have the 10% ethanol in them,

Anything above 93 (including 93 level) will work fine. Just don't go below.

I just go to the airport and get 100LL. At $3.90 a gallon, and has lead, i'm happy. Although can't run it in a efi car. But the ol Corvair likes it!
