So Ive had my car on CL for some time and I got a trade offer for a Jeep that KBB said was only worth $1000. It had some upgrades like a lift and wheels. I told him..

"No thanks, unless you would be interested in adding. Your truck is only worth ~$1500 in my opinion."

Then he said... "A simple no would have sufficed, I don't see a dented up 23 year old car worth any more than my Jeep, but whatever."

Then I said... "BMW > Jeep. Thanks bye."

Idiots.

yes, most new cars are "better" than any stock e30, but they are not necessarily as engaging to drive. Actually, my old '83 corolla wagon (manual, rwd) was much more fun to drive than my e30 or my new Nissan. At 4000rpm I could feel the engine falling apart and I could eel the wheels tracking the ground on the low speed corners. I could feel the road in the steering wheel and the always leaking exhaust sounded great! Too back it got crushed soon after I sold it.

Bmw's and jeeps are completely different animals. They are really not even worth comparing because of their differences. In terms of value, I think that would have been a fair trade. You just have a BMW roundel shoved too far up your ass to see other cars how they are.

I own a Jeep AND an e30. Jeeps hold their value like crazy. KBB rated the Jeep Wrangler as the Best Resale Value in SUV Segment. Owing both I can say that they are completely different. Everyone is going to think what they have is better, worth more, worth more than someone else thinks. Both parties are trying to get a deal here. I do agree that this is partly the reason people think BMW drivers are "pricks and better than everyone else"

Off topic, but I'm headed to Keene on Monday with the Evo II, I was going to swing by AVA and see what's on the lift.
Chance to check out the only E2 in the country, she's probably moving to sunny CA soon.
