My question:
What would you do if you woke up and found out that 1,000 dollars from your bank account was gone?
What would you do if you had a suspicion as to how and where it happened?
Long story short -
I rarely use my debit pin when purchasing anything as far as security goes, including gas. Went to get gas at the local Costco as 91 octane was $3.05/gallon because my girlfriend suggested it as it was cheaper and told me to go before it closed on June 4, 2010 at around 9 pm PST (closes at 9:30pm M-F). I did notice when I arrived that several, if not half, of the gas pumps were already blocked with cones. Slid my card with ease, entered my pin, pumped in gas and off I went.
I really didn't purchase anything with my card over the weekend as I did have cash on me at the time, about 80 dollars, so I never bothered checking my account as I already knew how much I had in there. Felt like I needed to check it as I do have clinicals soon and I would still need to purchase scrubs/equipment for my field of study and when I checked it this morning at around 8:20 - 8:30am I found out this.
EDIT: Just added
To further support my suspicion of post #9 - I know for a fact they used a card and a pin as they went to two separate ATM machines during the weekend (while the banks were closed) and pulled 500 dollars from each transaction/machine. /edit
I've already done the following:
- Contacted the fraud department of my bank
- Filed a Police report of Identity Theft
- Contacted Costco General Manager of the possibility that it may be an inside job
I really hate to be sitting back while this fucker spends my money without a care in the world and would really love to give this asshole a beating worth 1,000 dollars at minimum while at the same time prevent it from happening to another. But yes, we all know taking things into your own hands can usually make things worse if not really bad.
