I've been thinking about why it had this plate with it on it when i bought it... which obviously doesn't mean its related to the car. The car was left at the guys house i got it from by his friend, who left it there in his garage since 2004. He didn't know anything about it at all, or about cars in general.

I didn't really think much about the plate until i took out the card for how to put the top and and down and found this paper underneath it.

back:

I looked into the plate and found out its an export plate and here's some info...
"Export plates (also known as "Ausfuhrkennzeichen", customs plates) are used for exporting vehicles abroad. The plates are the only ones which do not have the blue Euro strip on the left and the owner does not have to be a German resident to register the car. The date on the red strip on the right hand side does not show the expiration date of the plate; instead it shows the expiration date of the vehicle insurance. After this date the vehicle must have left Germany."
Here's the car, obviously U.S. spec...

Anyone know what's up with this or have any information to share?
edit: found this out about EDSCHA
"Edscha AG has been boosted by winning two new contracts from Daimler and Volkswagen. As part of its restructuring, the company will cut 90 jobs out of 2,300 in Germany. Because of its healthy order book, no production jobs in Germany will be in cut. Instead, the 90 non-production jobs will be eliminated from Edscha's headquarters in Remscheid and its convertible roof unit in Hengersberg."
