Thats a descent price. The autos are better than the 5 speed in the 928s. They are faster around the track and fun to drive. In the GTS it would be stupid to have a manual trans. Go drive both and you will understand.

Definately a very nice 928, and the price isn't too far off.

As far as the automatic transmission, 928 automatic transmissions are mercedes benz. They work very well, handle shitloads of power, and are pretty durable.

As far as everyone knocking the 5spd transmission, any 5spd starting with '87 will use an inferior single-disk clutch setup. The older 5spd transmissions are actually BETTER as they use a lighter twin-disk setup. Champion racer Mark Anderson uses the older twin-disk clutch in his newer 928GTS 500rwhp+ track car.

The 928 was never meant to be a high performance sports car. It was a high powered touring cruiser. It's like saying that the S-Class MB should be a manual.

I don't see any appeal in the 928, what's so great about them? Someone enlighten me.
Okay, I've never driven a 928. Only thing in that format I have driven is a 944 (which imo is a pos), so I guess I have no right to talk trash about the 928, but why would someone who has the option of buying the brand new 993 at the time, pick up the 928 instead?

Its difficult to say unless you've driven them. The intent was to make a car that could comfortably and quickly get you from point-A to point-B on the autobahn. I think they did an excellent job. I've had mine up to 140 on the freeway, and it just cruises. Its such a smooth ride and the suspension setup is forgiving. Get yourself into a bind with any 911 and it'll bite your head off.

I saw a brand new Porche a while ago in a parking lot. When I looked inside, I shook my head because it was an automatic. A few minutes later, I saw the owner walking up to his car. He had only one arm, so i figured this is the only situation, where it is acceptable to have an auto.
