    Tools Baby...

    Hey guys-
Well, I just spent a ton of money on tools. $4,999.89 on Matco.com to be exact. I got over 50% off for being an AutoTech Student. I bought a Double bay toolbox, and enough tools to damn near fill it! Total at retail pricing was $10,293.95 so I got a pretty sweet discount.
Anyhow, I have been busy with work and finishing my education, but I hope to post on here more often now.
I also painted my E28 on Sunday night. I need to cut/polish it now as the clearcoat came out pretty dry, but it looks much better than it used to already.
    Anyhow, off to bed.

I've gotten Matco stuff so far, too as they seem to have the best student deals. I'm only at like $1.8k so far. We both have a LONG way to go. My teacher is estimating $40k into tools after 6 years or so.

        40k? no way dude.
I will not spent over 10k in 5 years I am sure of that.
I got nearly everything I need in this one order. I will have to buy a few specialty tools, but I only work on BMW's, and mostly late models at that.
Now, I can see 40k if you were in an independant and worked on a large range of cars, but I am at the dealer, and I only see a limited scope of BMW's and I already have access to the factory tools that my dealership carries so no need to buy my own.
Matco is good stuff and you can't beat their student deal. I will probably be close to the $7,500 limit before I graduate in May so I have a few grand to spend in the next 2-3 months...

I think every company out there gives a pretty good student deal. I know Snap-on does, for about the same, near 50% off. Nice purchase, I work for a tool company and you get a better deal than I do!

Not yet... I will get pics when I recieve it all next week.
I am stoked on this set of tools, finally I won't have to borrow from other techs to get work done.

                    PFFT.

Yes you will dude. Snap on guy will come to you and show you some amazing financing deals, and get you into a huge chest, and you'll drop another 10k right there.

Most serious independant guys I know have at least 50k into their tool sets.

It's scary though, looking at what amounts to about $2200 worth of Craftsman in my garage, it's probably double what's in that Matco set.

Hey now, I've got a nice set of Facom sockets on the way, and I'll probably be eventually retrofitting most of my wrenches to snap on or Facom.

That being said, for home mechanic use, there's nothing wrong with craftsman. They're inexpensive, they're pretty decent, and when I break one, I'm a mile away from sears.

Anything that requires any level of sensitivity (IE, torque wrench) is Snap On, but other than that, blunt items like wrenches I'll just stick with craftsman. Besides, I've killed Snap on sockets just as easily as I've killed craftsman ones, and the craftsman ones replace themselves for free.

What he said. Some of my Craftsman tools are pushing 20 years old and have yet to show any rust or signs that they will break. Of course, even if they do, I get a free replacement. :D

$5K on Matco tools?!?!? And that's the discounted price?!?!? I shudder at the mere thought of just how many tools that actually is.

                              Sounds bitchin 8)
