Is lock cylinder in door 100% same as ignition?

Long story short, i broke my fucking key (2 days after locking them inside the car). I don't have the title yet so can't go to BMW to get it cut from VIN. I had a key made from my broken one and it opens ALL LOCKS, but does NOT turn in ignition. A locksmith can make me a new key if I give him the lock itself. I can't remove the ignition cylinder without a key so I took one out of the door. So my question is this:

Is the lock in the door 100% same as in ignition?

    Thanks

Locked the doors by accident with keys inside while battery was out.

Obivously it's not in your case since it's not working. My car came with 2 keys from previous owner as well. I bought a new ignition lock cyl with cut factory key from the dealer, and then had a local locksmith re-key the doors/trunk to match.
