Sounds like the "sport pack" that the last gen E46 M3 had in the US. Basically all the CSL goodies minus the carbon roof and motor mods.

Knowing BMW, it's probably a super-duper special paint color and an INCREDIBLE new interior color. They might even go all out and put a special set of rims on the car.

E36 M3 was US-specific, and was a pretty decent car, even if it was really more of a 330is than an M3. The Euro model may have had 80bhp more but also cost 20 grand more. I'm all for lower-cost models, but it's morely likely similar to be similar to the old CSL variant we got here that wasn't a CSL at all.

Your missing the whole point of what M is supposed to stand for if your all for less hp at a lower cost.

We got an "americanized" E46 M3 as well with the 330i ZHP, and now they're doing an E92 varient with the 335is.

In regard of the US e36 M3 (with stroked M50 motor), let's remember that it was 1994 and that after the sales fiasco of the e30 M3, BMWNA had decided not to import e36 M3 with M motor to the US. We should also remember that until 1994-95, some brand new e30 M3 were still up for grab at dealerships. So, BMW didn't want to repeat the experience as the e36 M3 with real M motor was to be expensive.

BMWCCA promised BMWNA that its member would buy the e36 M3 if it was available, even with a few US specific changes, and cheaper than the Euro version. The reply was an M3 with stroked M50 motor. And it sold by the bucket. Even kids with Mustangs would ditch their US tron and purchase the e36 M3, thanks to a torquey engine that requires barely no maintenance.
