One sweet VW

This is just a concept, but VW is planning on building a roadster. If it looks anything like this, I just might have to buy one. :D

Depending on the materials used (determining vehicle curb weight) and the buyer demographics they are aiming for, I could see VW packaging that car with either the tuned-up 1.8L turbo (a la Audi TT Roadster/Coupe) or the 24-valve VR6 motor. Both make similar power figures, but the turbo 4 would definately be lighter thus offering better handling.

It may become dubbed as the "Poor Man's Boxster."

I read about it, it will compete with the Boxter, TT and the Z4, so expect similar price and performance figures, it looks nice though

Not at all, VW = Porsche = Audi
They are offering competing models for different demographics and its just not what I admire in their offerings anymore. Their strategy to me is not strong enough to capture audience away from the S2000, Miata, Z3, Mr2, Lotus and the likes.

Just like how they are trying to enter the luxury market with the Phaeton and slackened on their other strong earners causing them to get a bad rep with the questionable build quality and issues on the Jettas, Passats and Golfs. I think they are trying a little too much man... they have Skoda and Seat under their arm too.... Granted thats for the European market, its still a part of them you cannot ignore.

They shouldda just kept making the bugs hehe :P

i can see s2000 from the first look at the font end. the ass looks a bit big and awkward like Z4ish/TTish. i doubt it will have the performance figures of the 240hp s2000 however.

Top Gear has a tight comparison.....more like argument between the three drivers over their fav between the Z4, Boxster, and S2000. Winner: Boxster, but barely, over the Z4. It's on the second half of the E46 M3 CSL episode.

No offense to those who like it, I think the car kinda looks waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles. (Like the VW bug) The grill and headlights make it look likes its smiling. I at least hope the weight is low and the power is high!

Give me a 3.0L Z4 6spd anyday! Silver over black please. ...... that or a Lotus :twisted:

I watched that episode of top gear. My take on that is, it was shot to depict the supposed true nature of people out there as to which car they chose and why, you saw the never ending argument. I bet you saw the fastest electric roof part.. funny. Maybe that's what VW is trying to do, offer a product to every driver out there. In theory it sounds great but in reality its not as solid as it would seem to be.

As to the touareg and Cayenne, those are just their competitors for the X5, ML and the likes. As fast as the Cayenne is, its not stylish at all imho. I'd take the 4.6iS over that car even though its not as fast. With that high C of G lets see people demonstrate roll overs as they think they are invincible with their electrical anti-roll gadgets. An X5 surpised me one time at a local auto-x when some guy run one. The tricked out one run by Hans Stuck at the ring was a nice bragging rights machine.

Dude, i love the 4.6iS. It's fun to drive, and the 20" stock wheels are strong (in appearance) and really make the car (SAV) stand proud. The 4.6 is actually faster than the non-Turbo Chayenne i read.

The SAV......given its name, still has awesome handling characteristics.

DTM had a X5 on Hammann 22's, a real beautiful blue paint, and a Hammann body kit in June. The car is also on Cardomain somewhere.

but most SUV drivers suck........anyway this is a lil off-topic........
