Having driven both a euro spec Cossie, and the US version, there is quite the difference in the two cars. (much like anyting else in the '80's)
The US versions were a bit watered down compared to the Top Gear car.

Also, the car in the ebay auction...I'll quote. "We bought this car from the Rescue Mission"

This right here made me stop reading the rest of the advert.
    Most likely no/little service history.
    This is very bad.

The rear suspension alone will be a shit ton of $$$$ to rectify it/when it has problems.

190E is the way to go. I knew of one with a 5 speed for 1500 in Portland.

I'd get that and build the 600+HP monsters they did back in the 80's. Probably more expensive to build than any M3 and MB190 combined, but hell - we can all dream, right?

      Just some random google images:

These are now well over 70k if you can find one. Great examples sell for 125-150. I have a lead on one but not the $$$ at the moment.

That's pretty damn expensive. Last time I checked they were closer to 10-15K (still expensive, I know). Finding a decent one for sale is a challenge though.

Depends on if it's an Ur-Quattro or a Sport Quattro. I though Ur's went for considerably less? Still very rare though.

You a fan? The guy told me that if I show up tomorrow and made an offer I'd probably be driving it home :D
He said he's owned it for 10 years, it never saw a weekday, rain, snow, or high winds. Speedo stopped working 2 years ago and he never fixed it because it doesn't get driven.

Now I gotta decide if I continue searching for a Merc, porsche, or replace my 600rr with this (btw, it'd be getting painted white): http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/mcy/1848768456.html

Those are all long wheelbase Quattros.
They (in the states) range from 5K for a POS, up to 20K for a minter.
..except the last one, with white wheels, that's a 20v version...not avalible in the States. 30K for that one in nice condition.
The Sports (SWB) are in the price range you're speaking of.
                      Only 5 in the States.

You can grab a decent LWB Quattro, (Ur Quattro) for 10K, swap out the engine from one that is out of a '91 100, or 92-94 S4, which is very easily modded up to 400+ with easy bolt-ons.

With the stock Ur Quattro engine, you're looking at a peak modified HP of just a tad less than 300. (without spending more than the aforementioned swap)

Fabulous cars. Even stock (160-200 HP) they are a blast to drive, and very well much worth the hype.

Please let me know where this car is.
It's an '84. Less than 10 in Canada.

That '85 is fucking nice btw...except for that steering wheel, and the rear spoiler isn't original.
