Nutshell: on the Eugene Meet cruise, went to pass in a passing zone like everyone else did, decided not to pass, went back into my lane, hit brakes hard, brakes locked (ABS FAILURE) and trailer hitch meets my front end.
Well the insurance is settled...
Apparently I didn't have a choice in the matter of totalling the car out. The insurance said state law made them report all this to the DMV. I am still trying to figure out how a car that was purchased for $5000 BEFORE MODS AND MAINTENENCE can be valued at $3655, especially after the appraiser THEY SENT OUT gave Jordan and I an average value of $5500 (not including my "extras" that I have on her). Eventually, with receipts I managed to scrounge up, they bumped the value to $4250. I also want to know how that appraiser's original extimate of $3700 worth of damage translated to $7500 in damage by the time my insurance people got a hold of things. Anyways, I end up with a salvage title, $385 check for the tow, $3340 for the car (everything all said and done), and I have to get a "brake and light check" when I smog/register in June.
A few notes about all this:
First off, the help and hospitality I experienced from everyone on my trip that weekend was just stellar. All you guys who hung around after the accident are wonderful people for your support (see examples in pics below). All you guys who left the accident... it's all good, I understand the mentality and thank you for not adding to a possible crowd-thing happening.... even though I saw most of you later anyways. More specifically, Colby and Jon were good guys to lend me a floor to sleep on, and to call up and check on me (Josh too). Jordan... dude... I gotta sing the praises. You've got the skills, you've got the heart (fuck what some people might say to that), and you've got some kickass parents to back it all up, the seven cats included. Thank you for what you have done and continue to do to help me along. Sorry about that drill bit I broke drilling out spot welds  . Just so you all know, one of the first things I remember someone telling me right after I crashed was "Jordan said he will drive you home if need be." Yeah, damn. Bavarian Auto Recylcing = kickass service and prices. Excellent brakes mean shit if the ABS = teh sux0r. Oregon is rainy. Kthx.

On to some pics!!

Things getting replaced:
Hood, Fender, Core Support + some apron metal, Front Valance, Bumper Core + Cover, Turn Signals, Smoked Hellas, Radiator, Ignition Cap, Water Pump, and whatever else I can't think of at the moment.
There it is. Thanks.
