How screwed am I??....Bust throttle body bolt off the intake mani

Changing intake gaskets, etc. While reattaching the throttle body, yep...

Busted a stud. The bottom right coming from the intake manifold. I filled the depression left with red RTV and tried to seal around that corner of the throttle body.

How bad my intake leak going to be? I did get the other 3 nuts on super tight without breaking them, so maybe it will hold?

    or not??

If not, is it possible to tap the intake mani with a new bolt or do I have replace the intake manifold and do this job all over again?

Any reasonably sound input is appreciated.

Well, thats good to know. You think the 3 that are tight will keep it from pulling air?

Also had one intake manifold nut I couldnt get torqued really well. The other 11 are nice and tight though.

      No worries???

This is one of those things that might work forever or fail in a day. The proper way to fix it would be to use an ez-out to remove the broken off stud and replace it. At very worst, you will have to drill the stud out and put a heli-coil in.

If you have any issues with it, you maybe able to carefully weld a head of a bolt to the stud and turn it out. Or just bust the iron fist out and use vice grips.

eh not that big of a deal. easy out or drill it out/heli coil, and replace with a new stud.

btw the torque on those isn't very high. don't he-man things on there, you can overtighten things with your pinky pretty easy.

Is it a stud, that can be replaced? Seems I recall they are formed from the intake mani. I suppose it could still be drilled out?

If its not too tight in there, spray some lubricant in there, dremel a notch in the stud, and turn it out with a flathead.

Once the stud breaks off, there is no pressure on it. If the threads are not buggered, you ought to be able to work it out fairly easily. If the remaining part of the stud is below the level of the gasket surface, try using a sharp pick to work it out. If it's above the gasket surface, you can probably back it out with a suitable pair of pliers, maybe even a pair of dikes.

Any reason I shouldnt try to run it like is? See if it holds. I can worry about drilling, or dremeling it out later, if it proves to create a big intake leak.

The thing is it might fail at an inconvenient time and create a huge headache. I like to fix these kinds of things BEFORE they are a problem.

it's going to be a big vac leak. no real way around it.

drill it out and replace the stud, it's really not a big deal.
