If you google "PayPal 21 day hold" you will see that they are doing this more and more all the time. It's no secret that eBay wants to cut down on the amount of small sellers and become more like Amazon. This is probably one way to do it.

I don't mind companies making money. But, when fucking Meg Whitman can spend $100,000,000 to run for office I kind of feel like eBay may have been overcharging us sellers a little.

Ive never had a problem with paypal, and I've had an account for forever. Pay attention to what you are doing. Be honest, and you wont have an issue. I have a merchant account, maybe its different.

you are absolutely wrong. PAYPAL IS EVIL. They do NOT have a fair and just way of doing things.

Say you buy a part off of me, and you don't receive it. You open up a paypal claim. I take a box of rocks and go down to UPS or Fed-EX with your shipping adress. I ship the box of rocks and make sure to get the tracking number. You receive the box of rocks and say "WTF is this!?!". I provide paypal with the tracking number which shows it was delivered. You lose. Paypal WILL NOT listen to what you have to say. I don't care if you take pictures of the box the second it arrives. I don't care if you hire the best attorney in the world or threaten them with legal action. You lose.

Now, I obviously would not do this as I'm an honest person. There are PLENTY of people who are not though. I have been scammed / shipped wrong/empty items for at least $1,000. This number is most likely more, I try to not think about it too much.

ONE THING I HAVE LEARNED, WHICH EVERY BUYER SHOULD LEARN AND DO EVERY TIME THEY PAY WITH PAYPAL. MAKE SURE YOU PAY WITH A CREDIT CARD LINKED TO YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT! THIS IS THE ONLY, I REPEAT THE ONLY, RECOURSE YOU WILL HAVE IF YOU DON'T GET AN ITEM YOU PAID FOR, OR IF IT'S BROKEN, ETC.

Once you file a claim, even if paypal finds in your favor...YOU WILL NOT GET ANY MONEY BACK. Sellers like this immediately withdraw the money from their account. Paypal sends you a notice saying "we've found in your favor, but unfortunately couldn't recover any funds from the seller."

Well, take this info to your credit card company (call the number on the back of the car). Tell them the situation, and you'll have the money back THE NEXT DAY credited to your account.

      CREDIT CARD COMPANIES > PAYPAL

As for sellers with the hold...that has happened previously to me but only on large purchases, and if I haven't sold anything in a while. You will get the money...I just urge you to ALWAYS ship UPS or Fed-Ex with tracking and SAVE YOUR TRACKING NUMBERS ALMOST INDEFINITELY!!!

hopefully this helps out buyers and sellers alike....any questions feel free to pm me I have a LOT of experience with paypal....

paying with a credit card is a good idea in general online. I had a shipping company try to charge me $2k for a car they didn't deliver, and they supposedly had a "no refunds" policy. Yeah right, a call to the CC company resolved that one in about 5 minutes.

I was under the impression paypla did this to new sellers only. Paypal has some serious issues but some will not use the card and trust paypal so as ecommerce business you have to have it. There fee's are percentage based so guys selling small items really to do get bent!

BTW if you have a company and use paypal they will make an order at some point to check to see if you are a secure site. This has happened twice to me, they never completed it but get to the end to confirm your https./

this isn't really new they've been putting ebay payments on hold for ages. Only if your ebay feedback is fresh, as in you just started. Once you get so many positive feedbacks it goes away.

                      So to re-cap:

                      - No one here has been hit with the hold.
                      - Some made up one scenario that involved a box of rock that you could loose money. (lame)

                      That's it? Where's Jean's post...I want to read it. Edit: here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=177723

^That sucks. If they put a hold on anything of mine I'll go ape-shit. Fucking ape-shit.

How do you change your settings in paypal so that it doesn't automatically take the money from your bank account?

What I did was I signed up for a paypal account. Linked it to my checking. Got a pro account or what ever they call it. Then I when to my bank and told them I wanted new account numbers. At least paypal can't get into my normal account and stick their hand in there and get money.

Maybe it's time to start thinking about paypal alternatives?

                            Anyone tried these yet?

Paypay, eh... might want to rethink the name, but yay for alternatives. Paypal and eBay are so intrinsically linked its really dangerous for seller or buyer, since there's really no recourse aside from small claims court.

This popped up on reddit today: http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/c...protection_as/

Seems quite a few small sellers have been screwed.

^Yea. You know a year ago when I was in a coma, I had some items listed. They never got shipped - obviously. the buyers slammed me with negative feedback *and* got their money back as well. So I wrote a letter to ebay. Ebay's coorporate office response to me asking them to remove the negative feedback was "No. We always side with the buyer now. Tough luck."

                                Fuckers.
