    91RON=87AKI

    It's the same octane just a different system of measurement. See my above post.

    is it impossible for m20s to get into the high 20/30mpgs?

    my car is an auto with a 4.10 and i got more miles out of the tank using 91 than my e46. With my e30 I got close to 350+ miles out of the tank for $30 (30 bucks gets me a full tank in my e30). My e46xi gets 325 miles if im lucky and costs me $50 bucks a tank. which is odd because both of them are 16.6 gallon fuel tanks,

    So much mis-information in this thread.

    Do you even know the difference between RON and MON octane rating?

    Or for that matter anything about octane ratings at all?

    Obviously you do not.

    In Europe the RON octane rating system is used in North America the RON+MON/2 system is used this is also called the AKI rating. Basically it means that in north American the octane rating on the pump is four or five points lower than in Europe and many other countries using only the RON rating.

    No, exactly opposite. Higher octane burns lower temp and slower, that is how it reduces detonation and pinging.

    I agree.

    I manage 25mpg with a chipped M20 with a 4.10 driving mix city/highway. I think that's pretty darn good for a 20 year old car, I don't drive light either.
