I'll watch it because I love Top Gear and I will give America a chance to produce a worthy car show. I hate to say this, but if it isn't funny then these guys better copy TopGear UK to the letter. I will watch when TGUK is in the off-season, pretending these Americans have brit accents. If they actually use classic rock clips as well then that is a plus.
That being said, I chuckled at the cadillac clip.1985 RX7 - Badassery Exemplified.

I'm such a huge fan of the Original Top Gear (even the old format show). I sit and watch em back to back on Netflix.
I can't imagine the American version getting it. Plus, what ground do they think they could cover that the Brits haven't already covered.
If I want an alternative to TGUK, I'll watch Fifth Gear.
What I'm really curious about is the German version of the show. Remember in season 11 where they challenged the germans?Last edited by BrooklynMW; 08-12-2010, 11:39 AM.'87 325i "Chewey" (RIP, my beloved)

NEver seen Australia. I'm merely curious about the German show, cuz that's where our cars come from, and that's where all the best cars come from.
I think we fail to realize that Top Gear UK is wildly popular and well liked because of the chemistry between the 3 very animated hosts. I started watching the show as an informative car program, but ended up a fan because of it's format, tongue in cheek british style humor, and the 3 extremely different personalities butting heads at times, but coming together other times. Even if some of the dialog seems almost scripted at times. Their adventures, and challenges are entertaining and interesting, the camera work on the track is awesome, and Jeremy Clarkson is my personal hero.
I'm not going to automatically discredit Top Gear America. If it's on, I'll watch it. But to me it looks like it's going to me just another man's-guy's-dude's show that they have on Discovery, Spike TV, or History. It might as well be about military weapons, motorcycles, and meat.'87 325i "Chewey" (RIP, my beloved)

I recall Top Gear UK having some sort of a competition against the Top Gear Germany folks and they were equally entertaining. Either way you look at it, this show isn't coming packed with the caliber of folks that came on board in the current form of Top Gear UK. Clarkson has been a successful journalist for some time (his books are hysterical), Hammond has extensive experience in journalism, broadcast, writing, etc. As for James May, his car collection alone rivals most and his technical knowledge is stellar.
Show me the same caliber in Top Gear USA, and I'll watch. I can only hope they have a decent producer, because frankly the world can't handle another Supercars Exposed.
I'm looking at you driftboy Faust.Comment
