Yeah, shitty situation for sure, but it's downright stupid to put any blame on the driver. The street racing mention pissed me off too.

The truck at 1:11 is my friend ted/brothers truck(joey chott) class 1400 ranger. He said he was the second truck passed the accident. He said it was so sad to see that happen. This one of the reasons why the put a ban on group b rally racing. I mean look at the people standing and having there trucks parked that close to the track,it was bound to happen. R.I.P. to the people that lost there lives and our hearts go out to there families. http://cnettv.cnet.com/tape-deadly-o...-50091705.htmlLast edited by QUKBMER; 08-16-2010, 10:18 AM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

when volunteering as crowd marshall for NEFR people didn't understand why they had sectioned off areas where people were not permitted. It's for spectator and driver safety. Clearly people want to be so close to the action, yet will not take accountability for being reckless. On the other hand, on some terrain where it's ultimately flat...you may have no safe run-out area in case things go really wrong. These trucks are made to conquer obstacles be it rocks, ruts, people. There's no way you can ask a crowd to stand 400 feet back for safety sake. Condolences to those affected by this incident, but I hope it allows more thought into logistics of spectator safety in such a way that the spectators can cooperate.Originally posted by FredKHowever, in your absence, I will likely sit in your seat buck naked while making racecar noises as if I were maxing your E30 out on the Mulsanne Straight while allowing the perforated vinyl to soak up my butt sweat (going 200 mph does that to you).

I recall being an EMT at ROTW and a few other rallies, but really, that looks like every off road race. The stupid people stand that close, and the smart people, they sit on the roof of the RV.
I can't see any blame except on the people who broke the BLM rules, 50ft from the track. It looks like the truck was going through the section of the course at the required "Under 50mph" requirement.
You can't keep stupid people alive. If you don't know the risks, you shouldn't be out in the desert posing as a bro who thinks he is cool because he is soo close to the action.
