questioning my E30 faith././././././././././././help
You think E30s are hard to work on? What, have you only replaced heater cores, and intake manifold gaskets, or something? those are 2 of the hardest things i can think of on the car...
was the timing belt really that bad? that was the first think i ever did to a car, unsupervised (don't tell mom) just wait until you have to replace that coolant connecting piece on the back of the head. every thing on this car will seem easy after that.
i did a full rebuild on my 325es in the driveway with no power tools. other than me breaking things on the car... both my e30s have/had been flawless. if you get an e36 you will need to take it to a shop, they are even harder to work on. and guess what, they also use metric. just buy the stupid set. and if you cant read a Bentley's repair manual, dont work on your own car.
if replacing a master cylinder is challenging for you you should; a. give up on doing your own labor, and get a legit job that pays enough that you can afford a good mechanic, b. buy a modded e30 from someone who knows what they're doing, and still plan to pay somebody else to work on it, or; c. as mentioned before, buy a toyota and forget about driving a modified car entirely.

I don't know how anyone can think the e-30 is a difficult car to work on. In fact besides my 2002 it was the easiest car I ever worked on.
And you are complaining about buying metric tools? Its about $150 for a big set of Cobalt lifetime warranty metric tools, and that about all you will ever really need for most jobs.
I think this calls for a V-Tech swap into your e30, call it a BHW if you will. Don't laugh, its been done.
Otherwise, find an independent BMW tech and make him your new best friend. By him breakfast, lunch, 12 pack o-brewskies, pay for his hooker. Then you can start making progress.
I didn't know putting a set of wheels on a car made you become a master mechanic?
"Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed."
The Master Cylinder? Really? I replaced mine 2 days ago, never having done it before. Took 2.5 hours, including bleeding the brakes. I can't really think of anything that I had a hard time getting to...
The 101 Performance Projects book, unfortunately, doesn't help that much. So much of it is for the E36's, but the Pelican Parts web site has tons of great technical articles that should help you a great deal.
Good luck, man. If you've already fixed a bunch of stuff, then you're that much closer to being done with repair work (for a while, at least!).
