Took the E30 out on it's first track day at Ofest. Have to say I was a little nervous at first, but ended up having a whole lot of fun. Road America isn't an easy track to learn on by any means, but I managed to keep the shiny side up and only ran out of track once out of turn 5 and got onto the rumble strip. The car performed flawlessly--even when my instructor (a woman, who was a Porsche instructor but said she had owned an '88 325i in the past) drove a couple preliminary laps to get me acquainted was running the straights in 3rd gear at 6k rpm! Have to say that pissed me off a bit.

The sound of the engine coming from the M1 on the track was simply awesome. Everyone on the patio area around the food stand got up and craned their necks to see. The last photo is what happens to the contents of your cooler in the trunk while doing some "spirited driving" on the twisting Wisconsin backroads.

The woman in the pink is Steve's wife Denise. She was very nice and took us over to the Bimmerworld setup and introduced us to her husband who was happy to show us under the hood. He set the engine 5 1/2" back into the firewall and did all the fabrication--which I didn't have the camera there for unfortunately--since he owns his own body shop in Winston-Salem.
