    325e vs 325es !? Quick Question

Ok my buddy and I had a opportunity to run a 20mph-80mph roll for fun on a closed environment course. I was surprised how he kept pulling 3 car lengths on my 325E. We are both stock, and have around the same miles. So my question is whats the full difference with the es and e. I thought we both had 126hp 174tq. Mistake me if im wrong though please!

325es has a Limited Slip Diff. Also depending on year, the 'e' and 'es' had either a 2.73 (early) or a 2.93 (late) final gear ratio. If yours has the shorter of the two, this could also be the reason...

The 'es' also came standard with the Sport Seats and the 'es'/'is' front spoiler, which each take away atleast .5 secs in the quarter mile.

I think that you have that backwards. Shorter gear ratio should be faster all things equal.

Yes, faster top speed, however slower acceleration...

Shorter ratio = Better Acceleration. Taller ratio = higher top speed. You have it backwards RainierHooker.

Easy way to check for different ratio is to see if you both shift at the same speed and rpm.

Lots of 325e's (non-es) had limited slip as an option, especially early cars from '84 and '85 before there was the official sport model. Also remember that those early cars are spec'd to run smaller tires than later ('86+) models, which more or less negates the difference between the 2.79 vs 2.93 ratios.

So, the difference between your cars? More than likely the driver. Unless the engine is in horrid condition, which you would notice (smoke, missing, etc.). Maybe you have a clutch that slips under load? That would make sense too-- most of my customers report a loss of power and don't notice that the clutch isn't engaging. Could be a few things I guess.

i had an 86 325es and my friend had one that was made with-in ten days of mine, he was chipped/K&N/and exhaust. mine was bone stock. i beat him by 2 car lengths.(15-80mph) with these cars theres no room for error and if you leave the power band you lose.

at the very top end of "e"s they have 0 power, even before reaching redline/limiter

                      Edit: ROFL@eta's having power
