    engine warm up period?

Just wanted to ask and discuss
for M20 engine...what is the proper warm up period, when you are sure that engine is warm enough to drive it like a man:)
I always do like this...first 15 minutes revs up to 3k rpms, very gentle drive, after 15mins I start to drive normal

usually when my temp gauge stops going any further under normal circumstances.

Yeah 15-20 minutes should be fine for oil temps. Water temps reach normal in about 2-5 minutes depending on how hot it is.

        temps.

w/ my aux gauge set up I was shocked how long it takes for oil temp to come up...especially if ambient is under 50 or so.......

        15 min is safe.
I love sitting down and just driving!

I just keep it below 3k rpms until the temperature guage stops rising under normal conditions.

What are you guys talking about?
                  haha
I warm up for like 5 mins sometimes just because I want to. In Cali I guess we don't NEED to for it to be drive able. I just heard its good for cars.

when your oil temp reaches a good 160-180 degrees, which could take up to 10 miles.

coolant temp has little to do with it.

also, your engine sucks if it takes 20 minutes to warm up. you probably have a thermostat with too low of a low temp threshold.

Actually, it's NOT good for cars. Ideling like that only wastes gas. You have to remember that other parts of the car need to warm up (tranny, diff, bearings, etc) and that can only be done if you're moving. So just as the op said, drive gentle for 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer, if you're in a cold climate).
