    which brand tools?

Currently my toolbox is made from a assortment of harborfreight, autozone, asian brand tools. I've always wanted to get a decent set of tools that was complete enough so I could do most of the maintenance on my e30. Any recommendations out there? Keep in mind I can only have enough tools that will fit in a toolbox.

    craftsman, snap-on, huskey?

Anyone have the superexpensive facom tools?

cman have been going downhill fast in recent years. If you are gonna spend the money you cant go wrong with Snap.

Remember that both Facom and Mac tools are both owned by Stanley tools and have been sharing tech across brands in the last few years.

if you go Cman get the pro line for everything you can they are still much better than the standard stuff and seem to hold up a bit better

Never liked Craftsman, and while Snap-on stuff is really nice, it's too expensive IMO. I do have a set of their screwdrivers though and they are amazing.

For sockets and wrenches, I really like Proto. All their stuff is designed to be thin and lightweight (unlike Craftsman) which is really nice when you are working on something in a tight space.

For pliers, go with ChannelLock. They can't be beat IMO.

I would just buy the best tools you can afford. If you can afford Snap-on, then go nuts. Otherwise, compromise and find something that is in your price range.

Is facom worth it then? even though its owned by Stanley. Is it better designed or just overpriced?

I've barely even heard of Facom before, no clue what makes you think they're the greatest thing since the Snap-On bread slicer?

Go with Craftsman Professional if you don't have the pockets for Snap-On. I like a good everything-matching toolbox.

Are you wrenching 8 hours a day? No? Then Craftsman is local, cheap, and a LIFETIME WARRANTY. No-brainier.

Plus - I can NEVER track down the snap-on guy when I need him. But I always know where sears is. And now it's at Kmart, and a few other places like hardware stores. In some towns that means you can find an odd tool at 8;50pm on a sunday night. Huge plus in my book.

Exactly. Even if shit breaks all you have to do is take it back and they will give you a new one no questions asked.

                          GG has spoken.

And it sounds like Luke has been making a lot of money, with having his fancy snap-on tools and such. :)

Kinda been a professional, making a living for me and my family for 30 years...you cannot afford to fuck around with crap from Sears or NAPA (which are also pretty decent crap)

I'm not debating that there isn't a quality difference, but for the price and value Craftsman is hard to beat. Guys with the beater E30 budget have little $, but all the time in the world to run up to sears and trade in a wrench.

And lately Craftsman has been changing over to chinese made tools, so try to buy up all the old stock you can.
