People with a DSSR! (hopefully not installed)

I've got a huge favor to ask. Hopefully one of you will have one uninstalled. I need the dimensions so my buddy can make me one.

    1-Overall length of the DSSR
2-Width of the inside of the gaps at the ends.
    3-Length of the gap
    4-Total Length of Pin
5-Diameter of the top of the pin
6-Length from top of pin to the groove in the pin for the clip.
    7-Total Width of the ends
8-Oh And I forgot I'll need the diameter of the hole for the pin!

I think that might be all I need. Remind me if I'm missing something important. I would really really really appreciate it if you guys can provide me with these dimensions!
    thanks
    -Craig

And people wonder why vendors don't want to deal with E30 kids.

How about take some measurements of the stock hardware and figure it out for yourself. You can at least feel a sense of accomplishment doing it yourself instead of stealing someone else's design. You're asking for trouble posting that kind of question here...I guess your username is fitting though.

Made the username in like 5th grade. You're the one not thinking. If you were you would know that there is no harm in copying something and using it. It would only be harmful if I were to copy it and sell it as my own. Not only is it harmless to reproduce it, but they are not going to track me through a thread I made and sew me for making a dssr for myself.

Because the part you're trying to get your buddy to copy is only $100 new, and you'd support an e30 vendor. Your buddy's time must not be worth much. Don't be cheap and try to reinvent the wheel... What you're doing is what gives e30 owners bad names.

So you were in 5th grade in 2009 when you joined? Or you're just not creative enough to come up with something more grown up?

And don't worry, no body is going to "sew" you. Just take your own measurements and make a new one. Get with the program.

Wait someone is giving this guy shit for wanting the dimensions for some stupid insignificant piece of hardware? Who gives a fuck? What a wasted argument. Just give him the stupid dimensions. Fuck the stupid "This is going to give E30 owners a bad rap." Yea Im sure its this that is the leading cause of the downfall of the once high and mighty imagery of a E30 owner.

OP have your machinist measure up your existing one. The only crucial dimension is center to center on the pins and pin width which will be your inside width on the new design. Also measure the area these pins sit in on the transmission and shifter shaft to give enough clearance.

$100 dollars to a full time college student barely working part time is a lot of money. They are probably 140 or so shipped with taxes.
Trust me I've wanted to buy it, but I need to save money wherever I can.

I just never stopped using the username, its not a big deal.
              should I make it craigsbimmer?

Thanks for the support man. They don't realize how much companies overprice stupid machined parts. They buy the aluminum dirt cheap probably in mass quantities and produce a million of these things and then make back the price of the material than threefold. I support little guys who try to make parts for cheaper. I forked up $35 dollars for silence's tiny power steering delete, because he's trying to help us out. UUC is just trying to make MONEY.

Thanks for the helpful and intelligent reply and I'll listen to what you said and have him look at my existing one.

OP, you are as large of a toolbox as japandrew and his fAux-pina intake manifolds.

The problem was not that you were gonna steal someone elses design for a part as it was that you wouldn't even go out and find the info yourself, but ask someone else to help you steal.

And, it's not that these places charge too much for machined pieces, it's that they have to pay for the tooling, and qualified technicians to operate said machines.

Ya don't fucking say...and here I thought all the vendors were doing it out of the goodness of their heart so all the little dipshits out there like you could have shiny new parts.

I have looked for the info online, couldn't find it. I was going to use the original selector rod, but it is my only car, my DD. Something like a DSSR is so simple to make. I was hoping there would be a nice guy out there who would help me out.
I wouldn't call it "stealing" as I am not profiting off of this. I am just reproducing something for myself.

I hate to say it, but he isn't making money on it so I dont see any harm in it. He isnt being a tool for asking someone else for dimensions to make his own. If I had one I would give the dimensions to him.

I guess maybe everyone is thinking along the lines of calling up BMW to get dimensions to make your own replacement fender.
