The Harbor Freight jackstands work well...I've got the next size up from the smallest (optimistically rated at 6tons and only about $25/pair) and they did fine when I was putting a new tranny in my better half's '96 minivan. As far as a jack, I bought a 2.5ton model from Walmart for all of about $45 and it works just fine. It's got the removeable saddle so that you can swap on different pads if you need them (like a tranny saddle) and goes up quick to take up the distance from the ground to the frame rail without having to pump it 20 times to get there. Haven't bought the a creeper yet, though. :(

The jackstands are fine, and that jack will work fine as a makeshift suspension compression/motor mount lifter/diff support/tranny jack.

Spend the cash and get the craftsman alu jack, it rules.

Splurge and get the Craftsman aluminum Jack, you wont regret it. As for jack stands I just use some Craftsman 6 ton jack stands... as for creepers, I don't think they are necessary and IMO are more trouble than they are worth.

I borrowed my neighbors aluminum jack so pretty, so smooth. I think it's beginning to sag though. It's too bad, but I'd still prefer it over the cheap jack we just got - it doesn't have very good control I hate how it drops like it has no compression.
