stupid things you have done to your car

In the spirit of this thread, I shall start another, and will of course start off the confessions of a sometimes dumbass....

When installing a head gasket, and all associated gaskets, make sure that the exhaust manifold gaskets are indeed on correctly, as evidenced by the following pics:

Yeah, it caused one hell of an annoying exhaust leak. Of course this could have all been prevented by using the heat sheilded gaskets in the first place as well.

Looks like I was having a window licker moment at the time

Ruined my brand new M42 radiator by starting the car while it was resting against the PS pulley.

        Twice.

        Beat that.

i have an entire front end of an iX sitting in my trunk. When I was trying to stuff everything in there a couple wks back, I didn't want to unbolt the CA's b/c i was lazy. So I closed the trunk on it. Good enough now i have have 2 reverse dings on the top of my trunk.

also w. my old audi, I was obsessed about washing it when i first got it. I lived in a hilly neighborhood, and my driveway was about a 45 degree incline. So my genius self thought, hey why not wash the car in 30 degree weather. I hose the car down.....nxt thing you know the car starts icing up, and not only did I ice the doors shut but I created a sheet of ice all around the driveway. Of couse it didn't end there. I ended up slipping on the ice, and the handle of the hose smacked into the side of my passenger door denting it. $600 later, lesson learned.

Just finished rebuilding my engine last summer and went to put coolant in for the first time. I filled it up until the reservoir was full and started her up. Little did I know that because the hose at the bottom of the reservoir was bent up instead of down, there was no coolant flowing. Engine turned out fine, but cracked the heater core (which eventually flooded my driver side floor) and now have a leak in my radiator.

All of that damage from one stupid little detail....

with my last e30, went to a friends house for a party one night and where
he lives, you can't park cars on the street so we played tetris with all the
cars so they would all fit in the driveway. I parked my car with the nose
halfway in the garage(half of the hood) then later that night I went in the
garage to get beer out of the fridge and noticed the opened garaged door
on my way out in the house I hit the switch to close the said door without
                    even thinking about my car...

used a BFH to get my control arms out of the strut and bend some of the threads. i got a dye and fixed it. then i hit it with an even bigger BFH and destroyed them the next week. now im careful with the hammer.

also, took out a bolt that holds the PS pump together, lost all my fluid, thought the pump went bad and got a new one, then realized where the extra bolt came from the next day when the new pump was in.

God damn I have a few.

                        - I almost forgot to install the oil squirters for the crank when rebuilding my motor.

                        - I broke the high pressure a/c line because the hood hinge caught on it.

                        - I have rammed into my garage door several times because I would forget my car is in gear and just start her up!

                        - Forgetting to tighten down guibo bolts...

I think the list goes on and on...hahaha

I put remote start in my wifes manual transmission E30.

First she remote started it into the garage door: $700

Couple years later, she remote started her car into mine, while my car was at James Crivellones house...and I was sleeping 30 miles away at home.

                          High beam is still broken.

                          Closing SOON!

I haven't fucked anything up on my e30 yet, but I did manage to lock myself in the trunk of an e34 I was working on once. And guess what, in the trunk of an e34 in a paint booth in a metal building, there's no cell reception. Luckily I stayed (mostly) calm and was able to tear the carpet back and activate the latch manually. It would have probably been a couple hours before someone noticed I was missing, and let me tell you it gets hot and stuffy fast when you're crammed in there.

(for the record and mental image I'm 6'4" and 280lbs, it was a tight fit)
