How about installing a Webasto/Eberspracher system in your car?
Set the timer or start it with remote controll or your cellphone. It burns fuel (about 1liter per hour) and circulate the coolant while running the blower fan.
I installed one in my previous daily driver e34 520i. I ran it for about 30 minutes before going to work and before leaving work and enjoyed a heated engine and coupe every day. ;) It heats the coolant to about 60C.Comment

Never heard of that. Can you share some links? How about installing a Webasto/Eberspracher system in your car?

A new kit is very expensive, but you can get used kits fairly cheap. I payed $150 for mine.
The Thermo Top T is the easiest kit to fit because it has an 1l fuel tank. You connect the return line from the fuel rail through the heater and it will fill the tank when the engine is running.
The other kits needs a separate fuel pipe from the tank.
It's fairly easy to install. Connect the fuel rail return through the heater, run the coolant through the webasto and in to the coupe heater, connect +12v and ground. Place the timer and connect two wires to the blower fan relay.
Some pictures of the kit installed:

It starts blowing hot air in to the coupe 3-4 minutes after it has started.Last edited by Yngvejos; 10-20-2010, 06:50 PM.Comment

Wow, that is a cool system, but does not help get your car cool in the summer, nor will it be all defrosted and warm before you get in.
I will stick with remote start, thanks.Comment

It has a "summerswitch" that let you set ventilation timers. It defrostes the windows. 5kW of heat melts ice in no time.Comment

yes! and install writeup, if you please. i really want one for this winter, especially @ 33 bucks! you folks from cali & other warm-year-'round locales sayin "dood just walk to your car & start it and junk" crack me up, you have no idea what -40F feels like at 7am. any thoughts on positive/negative effects of the car idling until warm vs driving? like bearing wear from the oil taking longer to get up to temp? my audi specified that no warm up period was needed, and it was preferred that you start driving immediately in very cold weather to get the oil & coolant up to temp quickly. it was also a turbo car, but i'm just sayin...Originally posted by DozyproductionsYou know why you're drinking that Pabst? No its probably not because it was the first beer you grabbed. It's because you're a winner.Comment
