Correct me if I'm wrong, but why would starting your car remotely make a difference? Its gonna be cold no matter how you start it.

Are you fucked? Because then it's warm when you get in?

Do Americans not have car starters or something?

Apparently, not in Sacramento. In western PA on the other hand...YES (fuck you Lake Erie!)

@ the OP...I just bought a Bulldog RS1100 remote starter/keyless entry unit for $33 on Amazon for my iX. Nothing flashy about it but had decent reviews about installation/tech support - and includes an instructional DVD (most of the negative reviews came from people that sounded like they should be thrown in jail for getting within 50 feet of a car with soldering iron & t-taps in hand). I figure if it turns out a POS it wasn't too much money down the drain.

On a manual tranny car, its a bit sketch...fortunately I park my car out behind my house in an alleyway/pipe-stem thing with nothing in front/behind for 50 feet, and I've promised myself I will ONLY remote start it when I can see it (my toasty warm bedroom's window looks out on the backyard :D). I've also got a well adjusted and functioning e-brake...Here's me crossing my fingers!

Haha, I just walk out to my car and start it if I want it to be warm when I'm ready to drive. Sheesh.

Man up! Hah. I live in the foothills above Sacramento and it gets well below freezing most winter mornings. It aint no -25, but okay.
But anyways, I originally thought the OP was asking if his car would have problems starting in the cold, but now I see he was just asking about install issues.

Yeah not gonna lie, If I lived somewhere that it was -25 at ANY time of day, I'd move.

How long do you have to let a car idle to warm up in that kind of weather?

Seriously, thats super cold. But it only takes a sec to run out and start the car and run back in. Haha. Sorry to the OP, as I don't have anything good to contribute to your thread.

I just got my e30 in April, so this will be my first winter with it. Right now whens its like 50 in the morning I let it warm up for like 2 - 5 mins normally.
My last car was a 92 4runner and I'd start it like 10 mins before leaving just to let it get warm and let the heater heat up the car. Seemed to work fine.

Sure, but I guess I was asking about -25*. 2-5 mins aint gonna work. My guess is neither is 10.
