looking at car with broken timing belt

So i found a '89 325i with a broken timing belt. If i bought the car, would it generally be just as simple as replacing the head with a new one, or is there likely other damage?

usually bottom end damage is minor. If you have a chance to pull the head, you can inspect the damage. minor dings on the tops of the pistons are fine, holes in the pistons or gouges on the cylinder bore are not.

My car had a neglected timing belt, the only major damage I found was a snapped cam follower. Needed a new head but it runs okay now.

lowball the shit out of it if you can't inspect it. but yeah, expect a head swap. might as well tighten up what other loose ends you may have with it while its off too.

i snapped my tbelt, and was fortunate enough to not have any bottom end damage.

If its a white 4dr, it only needs a head and a new belt. Also head gasket and head bolts. Pretty easy to do, leave the intake and exhaust manifold attacked when you pull the old one. Reattach the manifolds to the new head and install.

the car i'm looking at is a black 2 door on the west side of the TC, and i'll have my uncle tow it back to my dads house in new richmond (your side of the creek)

but whats this about removing head with manifold intact? how do you get the head bolts out?

For $500.. shit id do it. Its a late model in looks to be decent shape.. jump on it..

i've done timing belts, and i've done head gaskets. I'm just wondering if theres any other possible damage i should be aware of. The drive to just look at the car is more than a hour away, so i'm just trying to make sure this is something worth committing too.

Well, worst case the motor is bad.. they go for 200-500 on car-part.com or CL.
