I wouldnt say it's that bad. But it's not good in the least.
Blood vessels contract, worse blood flow....the skin is actually noticably colder than someone who doesn't smoke.
And poor circulation.....well.....doesn't help when blood is supposed to be rushing and make things turgid. It's a strong cause of ED if you watch the commericals. If you quit today, your wife will thank you when you are elderly.
yeah, well that too. my lab partner last semester kept having to go outside to smoke during the freezing cold every half hour and would freeze her ass off. and now smoking is banned on more parts of campus, so they'll be further out from the buildings.
seems weak someone is controlled by something like that.
and with all our poor asses, paying for a pack a day doesn't seem to be very budget-wise. since it's paying for them now + paying for medical attention later.
yeah. one of my friends explained how the coolest man alive was a smoker. or something.
i think a lot of it is that social barrier need. like that need to hold a cup, or hold a cig when around people. people feel naked without one. or even a cup for dip spit. you get that thing to hold.....and then you get addicted to what you're holding.
and people smoke because other people do. it's the in thing. go out on the balcony and smoke with folks instead of staying inside and feeling left out.
meh, I'll deal with the one alone keeping healthy lungs.
Glad to hear you're going to kick the habbit. My old man smoked for nearly 40 years.....I'm surprised he is still alive today. He said quitting for him was a bitch (guess 40 years of cancer sticks has a lingering effect) but he did it, and he is really glad that he did. If you have the determination and desire to want to quit, you will do it. If you don't we're coming over to kick your ass :P

I need to quit....it used be just smoking when I got drunk on the weekends but now it's come ta about two packs a week, which isn't as bad as some but I can see it escalating (sp?). I had quit for a about a month and a half about a year ago. I bought a big bag of mints and a lot of gum and always had one of the two on me...I guess I have an oral fixation or something. I can't remember why I started again, something must have really pissed me off.

Good luck man!
First of all to all the non smokers bashing. eat a dick. It's very easy to say "just quit" to something as addicitve as cocaine. And pleasure wise... nicotine apart from being addictive is also an anti-depressent, which, in my case was the hardest part to overcome. Oh and the smell of cigarettes changes. After i quit after 3-4 days the smell went blech.
How i quit.. 6 weeks so far.. still going out to bars and having a life.
for a week i stopped drinking soda, coffee, beer or whiskey- ie anything that would want to make me smoke, but i started drinking green tea and an old recepie my mother taught me is squeeze a lemon into a glass, add hot water and honey- works miracles on the cravings.i also stopped hanging around smokers. after this initial week i went out and drink. THis was the hardest- but i had brought some lancer crackers with me just to kill the urge. One important thing is never think about quitting or whether you should have a cig. It's your brain vs. your smoker brain. The latter will always win the argument. Personally it only took me two packs of gum to get over the physical urge.
Oh and never think about the future "i'm going to a party, it's gonna blow if i don't smoke" or "it's exams week i'll need a cigarette"
