I'm also 17, very soon to be 18, and have had my pride and joy for about a year and a half. Nice to see that I'm not the only young blood with a car much older than them. Was going to start out at 16 with a really gutted '70 VW Bug, but I'm quite happy that a friend of the family gave us such a good deal on an 87 eta that let me step up to a much more respectable vehicle from das fatherland. Couldn't be happier.

Good work on using complete sentences.

Not being sarcastic, most 17 year olds on car forums come across as complete idiots. You'd be surprised how much more helpful people will be when you correctly articulate your problems.

Hey guys, I'm 49 and bought my first e30 about six years ago. First a brown 88 325 Coupe that got things flowing, followed by my 93 convertible that's my pride and joy. A 87 convertible that became a Hard Top donor and later traded it for a set of BBS RS semi finished rims. My second project is my Son's 88 Coupe that I consider my second e30, he drives it and I work on it and spend money on toys.

Thank you very kindly. With me, you are going to get beautifully crafted prose that asks mindbogglingly stupid questions. I'm definitely a total noob when it comes to asking for specific information, but one has to start somewhere. As the saying goes, you must walk before you run, and right now, I'm merely crawling.

Yeah, but the ability to articulate exactly what you don't understand will help you learn much faster than "my engine is makin a funy noise. HALP."

                    20. Had my e30 just shy of four years now, racking up a little more than 20k miles. She hit the big *250* this summer.

Got my e30 when I was Junior year in HS (16), as an Automatic with 230K-ish miles. It's going on 7 years of ownership (23 now), and is going to click over 299K soon.

                            22. I've owned an mtech, ix, eta, and two late coupes. Bought my first (and current) 325is 3 years ago and plan on keeping it for the long haul.

Been doing it on an EXTREMELY tight budget through college and girlfriends. It's been a financial challenge to say the least!

I had my track car since 15, sold it at 18 I think ?
Then got my second and current one at 17. It'll be 3 years in February and I have not done anything more than look at it. Pathetic right?

Too old to post age, but...

My first full-time job was at a BMW dealer that was selling 2002, 530i and 3.0CSi.
Bavarias were the cars people were bringing in for service.
Learned to drive a standard in a 2002 cut down into a pick-up by a premiere shop.

                                So, cars:
1976 Fiat 128: Drive it like you stole it and the cops will never notice. Rusted in half.
1976 Ford Capri 2.3 litre 4. Terrible car mostly, but handled well. Acceleration and snow handling Useless.
1976 Audi Foxes, 2. One auto, one standard. Introduced me to running straight 50 weight and other people's used crankcase oil.
Various Pontiacs: Pretty good, really. Drove them into the ground too.

After the above series, my friends started calling me the Angel of Death for Cars.

Nissan Maximas, '88 and 98. great cars. The no-maintenance maintenace plan really worked. Current DD '08 Altima has a CVT: Avoid at all costs.

Last year bought a rusty 88 325is and brought it back from the dead: New everything mechanical, but sold it after I bought an
