    i found a spring behind my water pump

    So i just pulled my water pump and found a spring and pin just hanging out. where did it come from. do i need it



    when i found it i had no idea where it came from it. it had fallen into the water jacket when i pulled the pump so i was going WTF. Thank you to everyone for your fast response.

    it's the timing belt tensioner

    and, yes. but you only need it when you're putting in a new belt/tensioner, if you're just replacing the waterpump you don't need to put it back (but make sure the tensioner bolts are tight!) and don't lose them.

      That came from the timing belt tensioner. Yes, you need it if it's not already installed.
