So I sold this guy my e30, and I might be in some trouble

Hey guys, I was looking to see if some of you where a little more knowledgeable about a little problem I am in and what plan of action I should take.

Im going to try and make it as short as possible. I sold this guy my car a few months ago, we agreed to write a Bill of Sale and he would drive the car with his own license plate and at his own risk back to his place which was about 45 minutes away. When he got there he would insure the car, put it under his name so on and so on. The problem is I JUST found out that the car is still under my name... I have no idea what the guy is doing with the car and why he never put it under his name which is making me worried. I hope you guys can give me some input on the matter. I could use some help. Contact the RMV, send em a copy of the bill of sale and you should be finished.

Did you sign and date a title as well? Do you have a copy of the bill of sale "which released you of ownership/responsibility"? VIN number and driver's license all should be on that record.

I did sign on the title, and the problem is, I have been looking for the Bill of Sale and I havent been able to find it yet. The guy has a very recognizable VW and im sure he is on some forums I just havent been able to find him.

ive bought rollers and havent registered them for months and months later. I just left them in the sellers name until it was mobile.

Not saying its ok. But maybe its sitting somewhere being worked on?

That just means he hasn't titled (or registered [or insured]) the car yet. You should contact the tax collectors office and see what they recommend if you can't find the bill of sale.

Hope he doesnt go on a killing rampage or robbing banks with your car or SWAT is going to drive their truck into your front door and up your lower intestinal track.

Not sure about in FL but in NS there's a piece of the ownership title that the seller signs, dates and can send in to the Registry of Motor Vehicles so that even if the buyer doesn't register the car there's a record of you selling it and you are released from any responsibility for the car.

What you need to do is send a "Notice of Sale" to the DMV. That will inform the state that you have sold the vehicle. Although you still may be liable is he does something with the car. Legally you are supposed to complete the transaction at the tax collerectors office, or tag agency and transfer the paperwork there.

Yup, that is the case most likely. I have done that with a car once. Worked on the tranny then took down the paper work to do everything at once. But I have a tow truck so the owner was not worried.

I would call the DMV and get everything worked out. R3V cannot help with the paper work =)
