Yeah, but depending on what extent his engine is a 3.2 from MM, he could easily have the same, or more $ into the thing. (Also the same power, just on a different band.)

Yep, those MM engines can be expensive! It's pretty much and s52 in an m20 block at this point.

Reliable and very fun on a track. The high end of a worked M20 pulls like crazy.

Also, if you put it in the perspective of a person who doesn't know how to do serious mechanic work, paying a shop like MM for an M20 build is much cheaper than buying an S5x and paying a shop to swap the car.

Interesting. I think he is hurting himself, or hurt himself, couple thousand dollars of 'value' by making the interior so called bare bones. No carpet? Tough sell on a fun and what looks like nice car like that with all those kind of eyes missing.

I'd have to disagree, metric mechanic list the "3200" at $8995. I'd say you could get an s52 swap done for a bit less than that. Plus you are left with an engine with lots of room to grow. And no timing belt, however that's a moot point on the metric mechanic engines since they cut valve reliefs into the pistons.

I'd like to point out that we are talking about a brand new m20 engine vs an unknown S5x. No way you will find a S5x that is completely fresh and get it installed by a BMW tech for less than 9k. Just my thoughts.

I'm not trying to argue that I would pick the M20, but it is a very reasonable option when all things are considered.

P.S. - I have a custom spec MM 2800 sport in my E30 and I own an E36M3. The S52 is way more fun, but the infinite comfort I have in the reliability of my MM engine is very enjoyable.
