If you wanted to spend 4-6k on a car..

And it had to have four doors
    - Be somewhat economical
    - Be roomy inside
    - And Be reasonable to maintain

What would you be looking at?

Looking at e39's right now, but Id like to know what you guys are using for family vehicles/DD's to open my mind a little bit.

    (no e36's)

I would have said forester too, but since he lives in florida an awd car probably isn't that important, much less a "lifted" forester, compared to a legacy

            4-6 k would get you a poor E39, but a great E34.

Well there's a 2002 530i w/ 150k local to me that ive been back and forth on. Very clean. Not very familiar with them as far as reliability, so Ive been procrastinating.

And i wanted to add that I wanted to stay rwd. Ive been driving an S80 for the last few days on vacation, and I forgot how much I hated it. But Ill still consider it- this will be mainly my wifes car.

I'd stay away from an E39 with 4-6k but you could probably find a great E34 at that price. Look for a Volvo wagon, I think that is right around your price range.
