So while I strip down my euro rust free car and send it out for body/paint, I wanted to find something to strap all my aftermarket goodies on and drive until late fall.
Thought I scored big with another 85 e, but I was wrong. Got it home, went to take the rear seat out (selling it, along with everything else now) and my foot went right through the rear floor. Turns out the floors are a bit soft on this one...
Then I get it running, and it runs VERY strong, and idles smooth. Needs a valve adjustment, but not a big deal. R3V it up a bit, and both black and white smoke are coming out in excess. Headgasket and something else. Too bad, because the engine is really running nicely.
Threw my TMS-chipped ECU in there for shits, swung it aroung the lot at my garage....what a difference from stock. Really puts that power at your feet. Everything works, which is more than I can say for my euro (AC, dome lights, windshield washer, OBC...the list continues) but it's too much work to weld in new floors and troubleshoot a 200k e engine. Strip it down and let it go peacefully, I say. Sucks because I have every single piece of paper linked to the car since 12/84- including the original sales invoice. BMW owners are like that, I've found...
