What happened? Car won't start, electronics don't work.

I was driving the car, everything seemed fine. I noticed a few times during my drive that my V1 power cycled itself a few times while I was driving. That's never happened before.

Now like an hour later I go to start the car and it's completely dead. Turn the key and nothing happens, no crank, no dash lights.

Any ideas on what it could be?

Or bad connection at a battery terminal. Or a dying alternator and a bad battery.

I just tried again and it worked as normal. It didn't have any issues cranking over and everything worked normally. Battery voltage with the car off was 12.46. The battery is less than 2 years old and it's been in CA (and garage kept) the whole time so no extreme lows. I'm having sorta a hard time believing that it would die so soon.

          sounds like a loose connection/ground.

Okay, any specific connections I should be checking?

Ohh wow I meant to post that a few hours ago.

@12.4v the battery could quite possibly be shot (after all, it is below the required 12.6). although this sucks, it can happen after just 2 years. what it sounds more like, to me, is a bad alternator or battery ground,

Okay well it was fine for a little while and now it just did it again. I turned the key and it didn't start, and the interior lights did not work. However if I went to the back of the car and locked/unlocked it, the interior lights started working again. Whenever I tried to start the car it would also shut off the lights.

Test battery at local parts store. Check your voltage regulator. It sounds like the alternator isn't doing its job.

Also the car is currently at my school, so i need to find a way to get it home. Would It start and drive (<5mi) if I jumped it?

No clue. Depends on what item is out. Take a screwdriver with you, and pull out the voltage regulator. If the brushes are worn, replace it. Either way it sounds like your battery will need to be charged.

If you wanted to try the jump start thing just to get it back home, there is a possibility it would work, but also a possibility that it will wear on your battery or alternator, thus, shortening its life. If you do try to jump it, just make sure all unnecessary items are turned off, such as: radio, blower fan, headlights, and anything that requires electrical pull.

why is this post in this forum?

seems more like a technical problem than a discussion
