Kidding. If you have the 89 325i, swap the COMPLETE engine in to your car with wiring and everything. Yes you can also put the i head on the e bottom end and yes the 88 is different.

There are a couple of routes you can go. Since you have an `88 325e (whose engine is affectionally known as a 'Super-Eta' (SETA for short), you can easily swap out parts to make a '327i stroker'. That will give you a bit more torque and horsepower than just using the complete 325i engine, as you engine actually makes more displacement.
Your model already has many of the components that earlier model 'e' models do not have. Basically, you will need to use fro the 'i' model"
complete head
intake manifold
AFM
Throttle body
a 173 ECU
some vacuum lines
...and you will want a new gauge cluster, since you will now have a higher redline.
There are several threads out there on this. Do search, please.Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.

Also if the car isn't Motronic 1.3, then the crank sensor and 60-2 wheel has to used from the i motor.
I did the swap following strictlyeta.net, was easy. You will also have to tap into the harness for the two wires that run the tach and econoguage.

It's my understanding the SETA was designated as just "325" no e after it?
The `88 should be running Motronic 1.3 already. Not positive on this, tho...Originally posted by LJ851kingston is the play by play announcer for this thread.
