nice road trip! Lookin forward to seeing the updates. I took 81 down the edge of VA through blacksburg on my way to alabama, it's a nice drive. You'll love Tennessee, its a nice scenic drive (better when the trees are green) but it's pretty easy. Are you planning on going through knoxville?

may i ask what your plans are when your in Austin??
if you have about 20 extra min, and are hungry for some good ol' fashioned texas bbq, i suggest going to Salt Lick. Very famous little joint on the outskirts of the city, with great food.

Day 2
DAY 2: Thursday, 12/16/10
Starting Location: Waynesboro, VA
Starting Mileage: 170,546
Average MPG: 23.5 - A little better. Even more, considering the weather.
Final Destination: Nashville, TN
Total Miles driven: 520
Stop 1: Cracker Barrel, VA. Once again, wouldn't recommend it. Colon angry with me.
Gas Stops: 1. mile 473. 2. mile 727
Woke up early in Waynesboro to an inch of snow. Needless to say, our plans to do some scenic country driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway were foiled by the weather. So once again we stuck to the interstates. Even still, by the end of the drive I had to unpeel my fingers from the steering wheel. Drove through the mountains in heavy snow, sleet, hail, rain, high winds and fog all in one day. In a 23 year old, RWD car, not the funnest of times. (Kinda really missed my Subaru).
After the previous day's Check Engine light scare, I started the day by disconnecting the battery. the light was off for the better part of the day until it went back on halfway through. Car is still running fine.
I was referred to Scabbz, in Nashville. a forum member who might be able to help me out. Not sure how much he helped me with my car, but he certainly helped me get drunk and have a good time in Nashville. Thanks again. I hope to be back in Nashville soon. He let me drive his e36 for a few minutes, which unfortunately means I'm hooked. Uh oh.

Day 3
DAY 3: Friday, 12/17/10
Starting Location: Nashville, TN
Starting Mileage: 171,073
Average MPG: 24.7 - Getting better
Final Destination: Memphis, TN
Total Miles driven: 240
Stop 1: Gus's Fried Chicken, Mason TN. Along Highway 70 W
Gas Stops: 1. mile 971.
Finally got some smooth country driving in. Weather was nice enough that we stayed of the interstate and used Hwy 70 W to go from Nashville to Memphis. Beautiful drive. We were able to take our time, and stop along the way. One stop I've been looking forward to for years was Gus's Fried Chicken. One of these holes in the walls along the highway, that somehow became one of those best kept secrets.
Rolled into memphis a little late, so we didn't have time to hit Sun Studios, Stax and Graceland. We'll do that tomorrow, and get a late start on the road.
Went out to Beale Street. I would not recomment Beale. I knew it would be touristy, but I didn't know how touristy. It's very pretty but has no soul and every bar has a generic old cover band. It's worse than Bourbon Street and Times Square Combined. Wish I had time to explore the real parts of the city, because I bet Memphis really kicks ass. Looks like I'll have to take another vacation to Tennessee.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ONE AND I WOULD LOVE TO MEET SOMEBODY IN AUSTIN, IF POSSIBLE
