    Day 4 & 5

    DAY 4: Saturday, 12/18/10
    Starting Location: Memphis, TN
    Starting Mileage: 171,313
Average MPG: 24.7 - was hoping to improve from yesterday, but no such luck
    Final Destination: Austin, TX
    Total Miles driven: 667

Stops: Sun Studios, Memphis, and kinda Graceland

    Gas Stops: 1. mile 1222. 2. 1508. (not a full fillup) 3. 1663

Woke up in Memphis and couldn't leave without visting Sun Studios. If we had more time, we would have also seen Stax. Tried to go to Graceland, but at that point didn't want to keep paying for tourist attractions. (Even had to pay to drive by it.) So we drove to the front of Graceland and turned around. Not a very interesting driving day. We wanted to take Hwy 61 down from Memphis to Mississipi. AKA the Blues Highway, the Crossroads, where Robert Johnson allegedly sold his sould to the devil to become the greatest guitarist ever. Nevertheless, we are afterall, on a moving road trip and not a leisure road trip so we decided to skip it, because it would add 4 hours to a drive that was already 10 hours. Added some oil. That's a bout it.

    DAY 5: Sunday, 12/19/10
Day Off from Driving. Spent the day in Austin. I have a cousin who recently moved here so we stayed with him and he showed us around town today. There is a very good chance we will come back to Austin instead of settling in LA. It is an amazing city, with great weather, great food, and a solid music industry.
Tomorrow I will wake up early and take the car to Terry Sayther for a mid trip checkup, then book it to San Diego.

    Some pics of Day 4&5:

We've got 1,300 miles to go, so 2 days if we're up for the long drives. 3 days if we don't wanna push it.

So far, no major cat fiascos. Just put a blanket over their cages and they sleep the whole way.

Hey everybody. Sorry I never finished my freakin thread. Once we arrived in San Diego, we just got wrapped up with settling in, family stuff, holidays, looking for apartments, setting up meetings, job hunting, etc. that the thread kind of fell by the way side.

                                So, to sum it up:

Total miles travelled on the trip: 3,167

Overall it was a smooth trip, and my first real long distance driving experience. Chewbacca held up well, for the most part. My check engine light was due to the faulty codes on the new ECU we installed just before we left. Since then I put my original ECU back in and the car runs much better. (That also means I'm still on the lookout for a decent chip).

Terry Sayther in Austin was a come-in-your-pants dream service station for any BMW lover:

Also, since I've been in San Diego, I've had some work done at La Jolla Independent aka Bimmerdoc. Yowza! I've never seen so many perfect e9's in my life. They also have the 2002 vert that was in some Katy Perry video.

Anyway, so we've been staying in San D with my girlfriend's mother, but will be moving up to Long Beach at the end of the Month. The girlfriend has a cousin with an empty condo there, so we'll be paying SUPER LOW rent! We'll be in Long Beach for 3 months before either looking for a place further in to LA (West Hollywood/Los Feliz, etc). Or heading back to NYC, Austin TX or Nashville.

I've been meeting a lot of people in the music industry, and trying to keep my mind, eyes and ears open, looking for good gigs and good opportunities. I may also apply for a part time job at the Petersen Auto Museum on Wilshire, so I can be around cars for a while. Maybe they'll let me wipe em down!

I'm looking forward to getting out of San D and up to LA county. I plan on heading up to Castro's once I arrive, but also looking for suggestions for decent BMW places in Long Beach in case of emergency.

Also looking for fun things to do in Long Beach. It wasn't exactly my desired destination spot so I haven't done any research on it.

Thanks a lot for reading, guys. It was a fun trip, and it was fun to document it. I'll have a link to a full photo album once I finish fucking editing them all.
