Solder station, Weller gun that I got when I was a kid, Weller iron and butane iron. Wick, solder sucker and some of the good old solder that I find at garage sales. My brother taught me how to solder when I was a kid. Fun stuff that comes in handy seeing that I prefer not to use connectors unless needed.

      Cheers,

      Jim

Butt connector for mechanical strength and then a good solder job for the flow. None of those plastic insulated connectors either, well sometimes I use em but I remove the plastic. My weller has been used and abused (plastic welding).

I have a Weller station circa 1994 (currently down while I find a new transformer) and some cheap no name station for $25, but it puts out enough watts and has variable temp control. I also have various irons and one gun that I absolutely hate, but it was free sooo....

In my opinion a station is the best. Guns are too heavy and mine at least takes forever to heat up and once it does, I lack a fine tip for it which is required for about 90% of my soldering. I have multiple irons, most of them are crap. My biggest complaint with them is the cord placement, size of the iron, and the lack of variable temp. I went through 3 irons before stumbled upon the cheap station I have. It has a sponge for cleaning the tip, variable temp, small size, and a sturdy stand. I like it almost as much as my Weller before it broke. :(

                  Said cheap station:

Used to use them all the time at work, and have a couple in storage.

I got one, a cheap oak harbor freight one. It gets the job done right, usually. But it does work pretty good for wood burning (probably not so smart but oh well).

Wow... Blunt has, as of Dec 18th, [8] soldering irons in his twinky hole.

And I have (1) for repairs, and I need it so it's not going anywhere a soldering iron has no business being.
