    Emissions....

I've failed emissions 5 times and I'm thinking about starting to kill people.

The first time I was 40 points over in the hydrocarbon section of the test, then I put it in a bottle of guaranteed to pass and filled my tank with premium fuel, took it to get tested and failed by TEN points in the hydrocarbon section. I figured I was so close I would definitely pass the next time, so I threw in another bottle of guaranteed to pass and a bottle of high octane boost and took it to get tested with high hopes. Guess what, this time I fail by 40 points again.... Why would it go up? I have absolutely no idea. But the funny part about this testing adventure was that the MARTA employee "helping" me informed me that people are over by the THOUSANDS in the hydrocarbon section all the time....
So I decided to take it again except this time without doing anything to it but letting the tank run dry, refilling it with premium fuel, and driving on the interstate in third all the way the there. Do I pass? No, but I'm TEN over in hydrocarbons!

So for my last test I decided to pull all the tricks. I filled my tank with actual race fuel, put in a bottle of guaranteed to pass, a bottle of high octane boost, a pint of 99% rubbing alcohol, and took out my air filter. Then just to make sure it was runnin nice and hot, I idled the car for an hour and a half before leaving, and on my way there kept it in third the entire time. Do I pass? NOPE! But I'm only 6 points over in hydrocarbons! The person testing me said I should call the state mechanic and ask for an exemption. I call him up and he tells me that he can only give me an exemption if I spend 200 dollars within the first 60 days of buying the car and have receipts to prove it. Which doesn't even make any fuckin sense but being that I've already had the car for 3 months it really doesn't matter.

The coolest part about all of this is that I've already had my temporary tags renewed once, which is the limit, and they expired on saturday. So now I can't even drive the car.

Just sell it ya think? :nice:

dude....... you didn't even tune or fix anything. adding fuel are not going to improve your chance of passing. chances are your cat is bad. go to any muffler shop and have them weld in a aftermarket cat. its going to cost you from 180-240 depending on the shop or you can go to the dealer and get a 700 dollar cat. lol. if your car is running great, 100% you need a new cat. go to dmv and get a one day exempt, get a new cat, go smog it, go to dmv. that's what i did. I always do my inspection without the car being phisically there.... You get it? Move to PR yo!
Yeah i feel your frustration but finding the friend of a friend method is your best bet. Good luck

Well being as close as I am to passing, the goal was to get it to pass without spending hundreds of dollars on the cat. Honestly, my car doesn't even have one hahaha. It's straight piped. But you I didn't mention that I didn't "tune anything". What could I tune to lower my hydrocarbon output?

You could mess with your AFM . Generally leaner conditions raise HC so you could try to richen it assuming you are not too close to the limit on CO and NOx . I dont see you passing W/O a cat , tho.

air flow meter. you can take the lid off and make a huge mess inside there. you got a wide band O2 sensor to tune with ?

i mean a tune up, new plugs ects. even though if you do pass the smog you will fail the visual for not having a cat. if your lucky enough they'll let you slide. for god peeweedeelee just go get a cat and stop polluting the environment. with the cat remove your not going to gain any serious power.

I've gone 5 times and they've passed me on the visual inspection every time. I think they're getting my resonator confused with a cat. All I need to do is get my hydrocarbon output down by 6 points and I'm good to go. But unfortunately my car just recently had a tuneup. I was so disappointed to take out my plugs the other day and find that they were all new.
