    Spedo failure question

Well its my time to contribute to the comunity a little bit again.

Well my bro has picked up 2 e30's in the last couple of month, both have shit Odo's. Well hes pulled them apart and found that the 2 smallest finest pitch gears are the ones that took a shit on his.

I never have had any issues with the Odo on any e30 I have had, so my questions is..............

Are those the 2 most common gear drive failures or are there others????

That said would there be any intrest in a replacement gear set for those 2 gears made from aluminum??????

He works in a precision machine and tool shop and this is a little pet project if there is interest in them he may make a few extra sets

There are others that fail, but in my experience, it's usually the smallest ones.

I don't know if aluminum gears would help, unless you replaced ALL of the gears with aluminum. I think if you just replace one or two with aluminum, the other plastic/nylon gears left in there would soon get shredded.

rig yeah we have both thought about the fact that switching to AL may cause the stripping of the next one back in the system. But................. The point remains that its the finest and the highest pitch of all the the gears in the system, so being made outta AL may not cause more issues with the more robust gears further up in the system.

That said, Derlin should not be an issue to have them made if there is some kind of interest

These little douchebags are $25 apiece from odogears.com. If you can make them for cheaper than that I'm sure you'd get some interest.

just as a heads up, I replaced just the small gear last Nov. Come June, the next 2 in line crapped out. If you have the ability, make all three, or you WILL be back in there again. As Wh33lhop states, they arent cheap, so if you can beat the current price, you should have mounds of business
