Dood, you need a sprinter. Modern vanagon, that is deluxe.

Or, lots of guys around here are converting fullsize ford vans to 4x4's. I think it might be pretty straight forward. I'm guessing the running gear off a f150 is similar.

Interestingly enough, the "more importantly" part of off road vehicles is your rear end. Transfer cases and front ends aren't typically the parts that fail, its almost always something in the rear end.

Basically jeeps come with 2 rear ends: Dana 35 and Dana 44

Dana 35- will get the job done but if you romp on this set up too long it will break(ask me how i know). This was standard equipment on all 4cyl and most 6cyl jeep wranglers.

Dana 44- This is what came in jeep cherokees and grand cherokees as well as the Rubicon Wrangler. Moar beef. A more reliable set up that will accept the abuse.

Ford 8.8 This was not available on any jeep as an option(its ford) but is one of the most popular rear ends to swap onto jeeps. This is the rear end mustangs and broncos use.
