is there a hole in my windshield ?

bought my car wired this way, I'm assuming it was an old school cell phone antenna. Ive never taken one apart much less seen one. Was there a hole drilled to install this unit ? thx

The fact that you've never seen a car phone antenna makes me feel very old.

its an old school cellphone antenna, i believe. and there is no hole it's passive through the glass. a coil on each side sends and receive the signal.
              Much wow

Im sure you cant be much older than me, but i could be wrong. Ive just never had a car with these "options". I think my first cell was a brick style nextel if that tells you anything. btw, Ive always loved your avatar :)

there is not a hole in your windshield. use a hair dryer to heat up the base of the antenna. then use a plastic putty knife to slowly work loose.

if there is no hole, how does the wire reach the antenna?

                        hahahah

I have something similar on my car, but it's placement isn't as douchebaggish.

I was wondering if there was a hole in mine too.

Like Cabriolet said, there is a coil on each side of the glass. Power going through the coil on the inside creates a magnetic field which induces a current on the coil on the outside. Works just like the charger for a cordless electric toothbrush. Tesla had ideas using this for wireless power over miles of distance, but a lot of people thought it might interfere with the Earth's magnetic field and cause havoc.
