    bust out some string.

Have a friend help you out, under the car and outside the car. it's really as simple as checking points across the chassis and making sure they're the same length from side to side and end to end.

What a brilliant simple idea, haha. I forget to keep it simple sometimes.

The collision cracked the oil pan due to the whiplash allowed by poor engine mounts would be your argument?
I don't think you should chase your careless friend for compensation.
50/50 fault:) for oil pan involvement.
No rear damage plus good drive train mounts would be no oil pan/engine damage.

If you want $$ from your friend, you should have screamed, grabbed your neck and called insurance last week.

So if I shoot you in the chest, is it half your fault that you die for not wearing a bullet proof vest?

I broke my motor and trans mounts with a hard downshift. Separated the metal "plate'/stud from the rubber, so I'd say its not too far off to imagine that a tap from another car could do the same thing.

I haven't checked the frame yet, not looking forward to that.

I just got the motor mounts off tonight with the help of my pops, the motor mounts looked fairly new? no seperation.
I'm definitely going to be looking over my frame.

My car was also rearended once. And also my oilpan cracked after being hit by steering rack.

Insurance said that something must have been wrong with the car in the first place in order for oilpan to suffer from rearending.

But the damage was bad enough to justify replacing the whole body, and since the oilpan was just a small % of total works, I decided not to argue with the insurance company.

Looking back at that accident - I would expect a cracked oil pan to be one of the smallest problems. Unless you are ok with leaving four tyre marks...
