First, I want to thank everyone for their input and knowledge. I guess my question may have been misleading. I don't care what the car will be worth 10-20 years from now. I just wanted to know if YOU would modify (S52/5lug) a unmolested 91 318i or, modify something less "rare" (using rare loosely)? Thanks again.

I am a fellow '91 318i 4 door owner. If you're having any doubt about ripping the car to pieces and having your way with it, might I suggest you drive it stock for a few days. This should remove any feelings of remorse you may have about doing that motor swap.

Rare is only rare when you can convince someone its important. I has a pretty rare color but that doesn't mean I didn't molest the engine bay throw half the car in the garbage and swap the motor.
