That Alpina e24 is the most awesome one ever! I had an 86 CSI, loved it and wish I still had it. Was a great car, some parts were certainly more expensive than expected, but not really that bad. It was in pretty good shape when I got it so that helped keep costs down, I didn't have to spend much to get it up to standard. I just brought her home and started driving her, had just turned 100,000 kilometers. Beautiful car... Let her go with 300,000 kilometers on the clock, regretted it ever since...Someday, I will have another...
'77 630CSi #5505149 (that's right the VIN is ONLY 7 digits)
M30B30, 4 speed, 143k
Here's what it looked like when the then 2nd owner sold it out of Roundel in 2000 (135k)
... and today. It's been a long 10 years. I'm rescuing this one.
I'm in contact with that 2nd owner and he's given me some hints and tricks.
She's in storage now, until I have room in the garage, she's pretty solid, but 10 years of dirt obviously. I drove her home 100 miles with no exhaust, no check of the oil, coolant...
I broke all my rules with this one. She made it JUST FINE.
Plans? Fix lotsa small stuff, exhaust, clean the hell out of her, cut the paint back to shiny, 16" wheels, and I may buy a set of lowering springs or just buy an extra stock set and cut a couple coils. Just plan to clean her up and enjoy her. You don't come across a '77 everyday.
