    Mtech II question

    Besides the sideskirts, what's the difference between the Mtech II kit made for a coupe, and a convertible?

    I was always under the assumption that the side pods on the fenders/doors/quarters were the same between the coupe/vert, but after looking through realoem, they are showing different part numbers for the rear side pods.

    I recently picked up an Mtech II kit that was from a convertible, but I'm planning on installing it onto my coupe. It is missing the right quarter panel pod, and I just want to make sure I order the correct piece.

    According to realoem, the part numbers I'm looking at are:
    51712234022 - Convertible
    51712239872 - Coupe

    Thanks

    Erik

              No, the lead on the one in Stockton was BS. I had my brother rush out there first thing in the morning and the only kit they had there was the stupid testarosa kit.

              I got this kit from a member here.

                  I have coupe m-tech II rear panels and will trade for convertible ones, I'm pretty sure they're more or less the same though

                      If my kit had come with both panels, then I probably would trade you, just so I have the "correct" pieces. Since I am going to be ordering a new piece, I'll just hang on to my stuff.
                      I wouldn't mind seeing your parts just to compare to the vert one I have, but I don't want to waste your time just looking at your pieces.

                      Thanks, but that won't be needed. I have the convertible panel for one side, so I know what it looks like. I was just curious about the difference between that and the coupe version.

                      I'm just going to order the convertible version so that if there are any differences, at least it will match the other side that I already have.

                        here are some pics. if anything i would think the bottom on the panels are wider to accommodate the wider rocker panel.

                            Thanks for the pics guys. Another difference I just found is the price. The convertible panel costs over 50% more than the coupe part.

                            I don't think that's it, as the front fender pieces and the door pieces are the same between coupe/vert. It's only the quarter panel piece that has different part numbers. If the vert kit was made wider, you would expect the fender/door pieces would be different as well.

                            You mentioned that you'd be willing to trade your coupe panels for my vert one(s). Do you have the whole coupe kit? If so, want to trade sideskirts? Feel free to PM/email/text me with what you're planning with your kit.

                              Yeah, I noticed the price difference too. On bmwmercedesparts.com the coupe rear panel is going for around $70 while the convertible panel is around $120.

                              I looked at my coupe panels and this is what's printed on them, there is an image of a roundel followed by this number:

                              Right = 22398720RPBR
                              Left = 22398710LPBR

                              As for the coupe side skirts I traded mine with SFGadgetguy's convertible skirts probably around 2 years ago. He installed them on an alpine white early model, which he put the full m-tech II kit on. He sold the car to a guy here in the Southbay I believe.

                              I looked up the price of new coupe m-tech II skirts and they are not too bad, around $350-ish for the set. Hopefully they're still available.

                              I also recall a thread on e30zone.net where they were wondering the difference between coupe and convertible rear panels. I think the difference is possibly in length or where the panel meets the rear arch. From what I recall it was a small difference but I can't remember any specific details.
