    my oil cap exploded!!!!!! HELP!!

so my car was running fine all day i came home and cleaned the engine then it sat for about 4 hours. i went out to leave and it was turning over but never started. then we started to smell gas so we thought it was flooding so i tried once more and there was a HUGE boom and my oil cap shot out of its spot somewhere! Why would this happen? i think the reason it wouldn't start was cause i need new plugs and plug wires but im not sure!

    ps. its a m10.

    Thanks,
    Brad

EDIT-so i found out the gas cap and oil cap is the same! i love germans!! anyways after awhile it started without the oil cap on! then i put on the cap then started it it again and it exploded again and dies! it will only run on 3 cyl sometimes to now! it starts ok without the oil cap on but when its on it wont start most of the time and when it does it explodes!

the last few weeks i have been burning a lot of oil and its been getting a little on the hot side!

Perhaps water got into places where water shouldn't go.

Holy fuck I didn't think an m10 would have enough power to break one of those.

I don't remember exact details but I remember my oil cap broke into pieces after taking it off to add oil.. or something. maybe yours just got old like mine did and shot off. Just buy a new one for like $15-$20.
