    Bavarian Auto Recyclers

Searched on here and didn't find much, maybe I suck at searching...I digress....

Has anyone used Bavarian Auto Recyclers on ebay to buy larger items? Perhaps an engine? I'm tossing the idea around. I'm having trouble finding an S50 and the idea of having a warranty, albeit 6 months and not all the inclusive, sounds nice. I know it would be paying more than a lot of people have paid, but half of the complete engines I've found on the forums are within 500 bucks of their price and who knows what kind of condition it is in. I'm willing to trust a large company with some feedback more than Joe Schmoe with an engine out of a car that I never saw run. I've read plenty of times that you can find a complete running S50 for $1500 but I am having a hard time doing that. Basically what I really want to know is if anyone has gone through these guys to get an engine, and if so how was the experience? If I can't find a trustworthy cheap S50 on here or bimmerforums soon, I may pull the trigger. I don't really need anything but the longblock. Any info is appreciated, even if it is a search link that pulls up something useful that I couldn't find myself. I don't have all the time in the world to sit on the computer.

    Thanks,

I've never dealt with them, only heard things about them and their "rebuilt" heads and engines which were pretty crappy.

How long have you been looking? Have you checked out www.car-part.com ?? It's kind of hit and miss, but it's basically just a big listing of various junkyards' inventory. Most of these yards will offer you a warranty, usually 60 or 90 days and most of them will be able to ship an engine to you without any trouble.

If you'd consider an S52 for a little more $$ than an S50, let me know- I've got one within a 4-5 hour drive of DC. It's still in the car so you could even see/hear it run if you want.

Wow, I literally typed in Bavarian Auto Recyclers and all it pulled up was some old threads about where people got their parts. The hit for "Bavarian" was BavAuto. Granted I just clicked the drop down search button and typed in a few different things. Oops.

Edit: Looking through that thread pretty much answered my question. Sounds like that place sucks. Sorry chaps, thanks for the help though.

I was looking for a part not too long ago and was cautioned by Levent about them. I saw a bunch of bad feedback on the forums so I used autobahn recycling. they shipped my stuff fast and it was in great shape. I would for sure use them again.

I know a guy in Cincinnati who bought an M50 from them for his e36 and it blew due to a Bavarian auto recycling screw up when they rebuilt it (i forget specifically what it was). Luckily they replaced it with their warranty, but he didn't have many nice things to say about them.

I bought a starter from them once and I didn't receive it for a month, even after repeated phone calls, emails, promises from them, etc. I certainly would recommend them, and it seems most others wouldn't either

mixed revues from me. bought a trans and no problems. 2 yrs and 50,000 miles and it's still going strong. ordered a 325 lsd and they sent a open. called them on it and they said keep it and they will send the lsd. when it came it was a 373 lsd. fed up, i sold that, gave the 325 open to a chick for her e and bought the 325 lsd from a forum member.

I know it's not a mechanical part, but I purchased an Alpine White fender off ebay from them a few months ago. Came in well-wrapped and in great shape, just as described.

If you need a hood or fender, I'd say they are safe. Something mechanical, purchase at your own risk...
